The winding, hilly roads are much like a small scaled San Francisco with vibrant painted, Victorian style houses with almost as many restaurants and bars as houses. To get a rental house in this location, the space may be smaller and cost more because of the great location. This is the top location to be for the 20 something crowd.
One area that has gone downhill and constantly is trying to clean up its crime filled profile is the part of downtown called Over-The Rhine. Some people are purchasing places and remodeling them up to attract new renters that live in a great building that is updated but has spectacular architectural history to it for a lot less money. It will probably be some years for this to become successfully though. Over-the Rhine has the great year round Findley Market and some wonderful art venues but needs to lower the crime in the neighborhood also.
