They way you present and maintain your office gives off a lot of information to rivals and visitors. An air of sophistication is important in the way you present your office. Thus, your choice of furniture and decoration is actually very important. Here are my top five tips, from door protection to décor, for revamping your office.
The Welcome
If you have a visitor, they will be judging your company from the moment they arrive. Reception areas must be light and airy so that they feel welcoming. There should be a comfortable area for guests to wait in. Chairs or sofas are both fine, as long as you pick carefully. A reception area which looks like somebody’s living room is never a good look.
The Décor
Less is more. Whole areas or rooms shouldn’t be painted in one overbearing colour. On the other hand, don’t be dull. You could incorporate the company’s colours in feature walls, or in artwork.
The Props
A few plants will freshen the air and add colour.A bit of greenery also does wonders for staff morale.{ Don’t be afraid to have a few plants around the office, particularly in closed off offices and reception areas.Just don’t forget to water them. Remember, too, that there’s nothing wrong with showing off a little. If your company manufactures something which can feasibly be displayed in a cabinet in reception, then by all means display it. This creates a corporate identity and shows visitors how proud you are of the company.Other props to consider are water coolers, well organised shelving and file storage and industry specific magazines in reception for visitors to browse.
Tidiness
Staff desks and kitchenette areas are often cluttered. Staff should be expected to clean up their own mess. After all they aren’t children. Even so, you shouldn’t ban personal items from staff desks. Your personnel will spend most of their week sitting at their desk, so should be entitled to make it their own. Besides, these personal items remind staff and visitors that they are individuals and not robots.
The Maintenance
After restyling your office, it’s important to protect it. If you don’t, you will find yourself spending money every few months to repair unsightly chips in paintwork. Protecting your hard work is just good sense, as not to would defeat the object of restyling your office in the first place. There’s a whole range of trims to protect walls and doors, and they’re a great investment.People don’t necessarily realise it, but frequent deliveries, tea trolleys and just high volume of people passing through put walls and doors at risk of chips, scratches and other damage. There is no risk of this damage where wall and door protection are used.
